Academy Museum: Your Digital Connection to the World of Filmmaking
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has launched its official app, Academy Museum, which offers a digital extension of the in-person experience of the museum. The app is available for free on Android devices and enables users to reserve tickets, explore the museum’s content and collections, and review visitor information from anywhere in the world.
The Academy Museum app features a self-guided tour narrated by Whoopi Goldberg and casting director Kim Coleman, which is available in six different languages. Users can also experience augmented reality (AR) and activate the animation of praxinoscope and fantascope images, bringing to life pre-cinematic optical toys featured in the temporary exhibition THE PATH TO CINEMA: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE RICHARD BALZER COLLECTION.
Purchasing tickets has never been easier, as users can easily buy tickets within the app and access them for quick entry into the museum. The app also features interactive maps that provide a variety of tools to connect with key museum locations, including exhibitions, theaters, the Academy Museum Store, and Fanny’s, the museum’s restaurant and café. Bluetooth and GPS must be turned on for full functionality.
